Overview

During the Edo period, the Tsuwano Domain produced many scholars and cultural figures, and was also home to a number of distinguished painters. Among them were Okano Dōzan Bitaka, a court painter of the Tsuwano Domain who followed the Kano school tradition; Ōshima Shōkei and Miura Shien, who were influenced by the Nagasaki school; and Yamamoto Kin’ya, known for his literati-style paintings.

This exhibition showcases a diverse selection of Japanese-style paintings created by these artists who were active in the Tsuwano Domain.
